The Lanikai Pillboxes trail begins in Kailua on Oahu, about one hour from the Ko Olina Beach Villas and Resort.  The short trail is named for the World War II bunkers it passes, affording hikers the chance to visit history up close.  The bunkers were used in the 1940s to protect Oahu’s harbor from Japanese invasion.  The trail begins with a quick ascent and typically takes hikers one to three hours to complete.

Parking is available at the trailhead, and visitors are encouraged to pack plenty of water, as the hike quickly becomes dry and dusty.
