The Makahiki Festival is a day of ceremony, celebration, friendly competition, and culture about 50 minutes from Ko Olina Beach Villas. The celebration features the Te Moana Nui GamesĀ a traditional Polynesian sports competition, along with local vendors and live music.

The Makahiki season is the ancient Hawaiian New Year festival, in honor of the god Lono of the Hawaiian religion. It is a time for men, women, and chiefs to rest, strengthen the body, and have feasts of commemoration.

The Te Moana Nui Traditional Games is a competitive event celebrating, promoting, and perpetuating ancestral sports of Oceania. The games will be held on November 11 at Waimea Valley on the North Shore. Tickets are $10 for adults and $5 for children over 4. There will be Coconut Tree Races, a Fruit Carrying Race, Stone Lifting, Wrestling, and a Tahiti Mana dance performance.

The opening ceremony starts at 9:00 a.m. and the festival will end at 4:30 p.m. For more information, visit https://waimea.squarespace.com/makahiki.
