The Make-A-Wish Foundation of Hawaii will host their annual April Foolish fundraising party on Friday, April 13 at the Standard on Ala Moana Boulevard, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina.  The event will include live, outdoor music and food provided by several premiere area restaurants.

Tickets cost $30 in advance or $35 at the door, and the event will last from 5 pm until midnight.  All proceeds benefit the Make-A-Wish Foundation.  For more information, check out aprilfoolish.eventbrite.com/.

The Importance of Being Earnest, written by Oscar Wilde, will be performed at Hawaii Pacific University’s Paul and Vi Loo Theatre, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina, from now until May 6.  The play, known for its witty dialogue, is a sharp criticism of the Victorian era.

A kid-friendly “Fun Fest and Earth Day” festival will be held on Saturday, April 7 at Weyand Field, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina.  The event will begin with an enchanted character breakfast, and competitions, games, rides, and other entertainment will occur throughout the day.

The breakfast costs $8 and can be reserved in advance by phone at (808) 655-9971.  All festival events are open to the public and will last from 8:30 am to 2 pm.

DFS Galleria Waikiki and students from the University of Hawaii program of Apparel Design and Merchandising have collaborated together to present an “Inspired by Nature” fashion show this Saturday, April 7 at DFS Galleria, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina.  In addition to a fashion show, the event will include a floral styling exhibition and fashion and beauty styling exhibition.

HawaiiSlam, the monthly poetry slam event first organized by slam poet Keoloha, will take place this Thursday, April 5 at Fresh Cafe in Honolulu, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina.  This event will feature twelve Hawaiian poets as they compete for their slot in the 2012 HawaiiSlam team.  The team will compete in the National Poetry Slam competition in Charlotte, NC.

For the first time ever, Hawaiian comedy names like Frank De Lima, Mel Cabang, Andy Bumatai, Ed Kaahea and Augie T are joining together for a ‘legends of comedy’ tour.  Their first performance is March 31 at the Neil Blaisdell Center, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina.

French music phenomenon Francois Rabbath will be performing at the Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Museum of Art, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina, on Friday, March 30.  He will be accompanied by his son, Sylvain, on piano.  Known as the “Paganini of the contrabass”, Rabbath’s performance is co-sponsored by Shangri La.

Ziggy Marley, five time Grammy Award winner, will be performing tonight, March 24, at the Aloha Stadium Lower Halawa Lot in Honolulu, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina.  He will be joined by the group Inner Circle in a performance designed to raise money and awareness for Oahu’s growing homelessness problem.

Tickets are available online at ticketmaster.com and at various Tickemaster outlets around Honolulu.  Prices range from $45 to $65, and the concert begins at 6:30 pm.

The Doris Duke Theatre at the Honolulu Museum of Art, about 30 minutes from Ko Olina, will host a Jewish film festival beginning tonight, March 17, until March 29.  The festival will celebrate seven highly acclaimed films, including award winners from the Sundance film festival.

Geobunga Outdoor Garden Center, about 25 minutes from Ko Olina, will host an introductory seminar on gardening this Saturday, March 17.  The seminar will focus on planting and harvesting essentials, especially for small, contained kitchen gardens.
