According to the Associated Press, “The National Weather Service warned Friday that there remained “considerable uncertainty in the locations that will be affected, the onset and duration of heavy rains and the rainfall amounts.”
Forecasters were predicting possible heavy rains and flash flooding from Monday through Wednesday, and the local civil defense agency advised residents to prepare for possible flooding from heavy rains and to secure loose objects.
KITV 4 says, “… meteorologist Justin Fujioka said the storm is projected to be a tropical depression or less when it reaches the Hawaiian Islands late Monday. However, he wants residents to remember that even a tropical depression can bring heavy rains, winds and flooding.”

On July 6, 2009, Sea Life Park embraced the newest member to its ohana as Hiiaka, an Atlantic bottlenose dolphin, gave birth to a healthy baby girl. The baby dolphin was named Waiohakaupo, which means joyous life and breath of the waters of Kaupo.
Weighing in at about 40 to 45 pounds and measuring 45 inches long, Waiohakaupo spends her time at her mother’s side nursing on an ordinary schedule under the watchful eye of park staff.
Sea Life Park commemorated the birth of Waiohakaupo with a special Hawaiian blessing ceremony on Thursday, July 30. Starting Thursday, August 6, 2009, staff will offer guided tours for visitors to see the new baby.

Hawaiian Hall at the Bishop Museum is reopening after completion of the first renovation in over 100 years. The Hall in its Victorian style building displayed some of the most advanced museum ideas when it originally opened in 1903. The re-opening will update/expand the original idea of the museum and it will tell the stories with a genuine Hawaiian viewpoint.
The Hawaiian Hall has three floors, each are dedicated to certain themes and stories of the native Hawaiian people. The first floor displays and artifacts center on religion, legends, and the vital role of the ocean in the lives of Hawaiians. The second floor focuses on Hawaiian daily life and takes a look at work, culture, and the Hawaiian bond with the land of the Islands. Lastly, the third floor embodies the mountains and highlights the permanent significance of the Chief in Hawaiian culture.
The Hall re-opens to the public on August 8th. Entrance to the Bishop Museum is included in the Go Oahu Card.
