Slow Food Oahu, an affiliate with an international organization based in Italy, now offers Chinatown Tours in Honolulu, just thirty minutes from the Ko Olina Beach Villas and Resort.

The tours include a heavy emphasis on food and food culture by highlighting busy markets, top bakeries, noodle factories, and popular dim sum restaurants.  Each tour lasts about two hours total.  Slow Food Oahu’s expert tour guide, Laurie Carlson, takes extra care to share Oahu’s exotic local fruits and vegetables with visitosr, explain proper culinary techniques, and introduce guests to a wide range of foods.

Every Friday, the Veranda Lounge offers a special menu to guests featuring handpicked wine pairings.  The Veranda Lounge is located at the Kahala Resort in Honolulu, just thirty minutes from the Ko Olina Beach Villas.

Bubbies Ice Cream is a Honolulu establishment, located in Waiua Place just thirty minutes from the Ko Olina Beach Villas and Resort.

Bubbies was first opened by entrepreneur and ice cream enthusiast Keith Robbins in 1985 near the University of Hawaii’s main campus.  The store was named in honor of his grandmother, a culinary inspiration.

Bubbies offers a whimsical menu featuring mocha ice cream, ice cream cakes, and a few other simple desserts.  Popular mocha options include the blueberry mocha ice cream, chocolate espresso mocha, green team mocha, and li hing mocha.

Kailua Beach Park is located in eastern Oahu, about 45 minutes from the Ko Olina Beach Villas and Resort.

The park consists of two beaches:  Kailua Beach proper is a 2 mile stretch of white sands and crystal clear waves, while Lanikai Beach is a mile long shoreline protected from waves by a reef barrier.  Kailua itself is recommended for strong swimmers only, while both are ideal for a seaside picnic, sand castle building, and general relaxation.

Parking is available nearby.  Kayaks and boats can also both be rented near Kailua, and a number of restaurants cater to the hungry swimmer.  Snorkeling is also popular in the area due to the abundant reef life and clear water.

Flowers of Hawaii1_slider

The Kumu Kahua Theatre will present Flowers of Hawaii from July 24 through August 2.  The theatre is located in downtown Honolulu, just thirty minutes from the Ko Olina Beach Villas.

Flowers of Hawaii is a series of short plays about relationships within local Hawaiian families.  Written by Lee Cataluna, Flowers of Hawaii is a popular performance on the island.

Pho and Company is a family-owned Vietnamese restaurant located in Kapolei, Hawaii about 20 minutes from the Ko Olina Beach Villas and Resort.

The restaurant first opened in 2006 to share a Vietnamese culinary experience with visitors and residents of Hawaii.  Popular dishes on the menu include papaya shrimp salad, spring rolls, and of course, several versions of classic Vietnamese pho.  Dessert options include authentic banana tapioca, coconut tapioca, and sweet potato tapioca to name a few.  Pho and Company also offers typical Vietnamese beverages such as iced coffee, bubble tea, and a soybean drink.

Paul Yau as Edward III

The Hawaii Shakespeare Festival will take place from July 18 through August 31.  The festival is designed to share the timeless works of William Shakespeare with island residents and visitors.

The festival will include three classic plays, beginning with She Stoops to Conquer by Oliver Goldsmith, followed by Edward III, King Lear, Taming of the Shrew, and Much Ado about Nothing.  These classic tales are retold through innovative presentation, set design, and acting techniques featuring local actors.

The plays will be performed at the ARTS at Marks Garage on Nu’uanu Ave, about 30 minutes from the Ko Olina Beach Resorts.  Tickets can be purchased online at http://hawaiishakes.org/index.html.  Advance ticket purchase is strongly recommended.

Wet’n’Wild Hawaii is a popular destination on Oahu, located on Farrington Highway in Kapolei, about twenty minutes from the Ko Olina Beach Villas and Resort.

Wet’n’ Wild is home to several rides and attractions, including chill, moderate, and extreme water rides.  Popular attractions include Kapolei Kooler, Flowrider, and Waianae Coaster.  Several of the rides are not for the faint of heart.
